At the end of a camping trip, it may seem impossible to get your tent back into that tiny stuff sack. Keith Hillman, owner of Out-N-Back, says with a few tricks, the tent will be put away without any frustrations.
First, look at the stuff sack: that is your measuring stick when folding the tent. The poles are also useful when folding the tent. They come in a separate bag, but are usually the same length as the tent sack.
Hillman says it doesn’t matter how it is folded, so long as when it’s rolled up, you are rolling toward the door or opening of the tent. That way, it is easier to get the air out if it. In half or thirds, just make sure that it is the same length as the sack of poles when set on top.
For the rain fly, Hillman says he just pulls it off the top of the tent and lays it out long like a parachute on top of the tent, ready to roll right in with the tent.
Start with the poles and begin rolling toward the door, then slide the roll into the stuff sack. |
