Timp cave 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 2
so i hear that there is a lake somewhere in timp cave, and that somehow you can spelunk down into there. It has been a couple years since I climbed through my last cave. this one would sure be fun i think.

Anyone know any details?

There is a lake in the cave, but in talking with the rangers at Timp Cave they don't allow off-tour exploration and they no longer offer a spelunking tour. So, maybe once upon a time you could do that, but not any more.
I did a bunch of spelunking in California (in the Sierra Nevada) years ago, and love it. There are several other caves in the area that might still work for that, but most are now gated and managed by a group that has to decide to allow you access. Their website is: http://www.caves.org/grotto/timpgrotto/NuttyPuttyAccess.html

I found this forum from an article on utah caving. http://utahadventurer.blogspot.com/2008/08/local-experts-talk-about-favorite.html
As brandon put it there may be as much as 600 or more caves in Utah, most of which are wild (not toured). Going to a grotto meeting is a good way of getting to know some cavers and learn the ropes. In Utah County there is the timpanogas grotto, who meets every second tues of the month at Hansen's Mountaineering. http://www.caves.org/grotto/timpgrotto/

Another resource for info on Utah caves is utahcaves.blogspot.com
Cave locations aren't given, but there are pictures, descriptions and some maps of some of the surveyed caves.

Also I post TR's and invitations to trips at www.bogley.com fairly frequently. You can find people to take you out to some caves there.
